Snorkeling in Vietnam

30th March 2015

I think I am 50% mermaid as I am always craving a swim in the ocean. Little did I know that the snorkeling in Vietnam would be this amazing!

Nha Trang is a diving and snorkeling hot spot. You can find tons of tour operators and package deals to fit your needs. Just make sure you know what you get! There are party boat tours and fishing tours that all include snorkeling. If you just want to snorkel, I would suggest taking a tour that does just that, snorkeling!  We booked a 15$ tour through our hotel.

We woke up early in the morning and got picked up by our tour guide. It took about 45 min to get to the harbor where we hopped onto our boat. It was a beautiful day with perfect weather. And what more could I ask for! I was surrounded by the ocean!

Our first stop was Mun Island. We spent about an hour here snorkeling in the crystal clear waters. The ocean was warm, wrapping itself around me. Our tour guide was swimming next to me, pointing out the bright blue starfish lying on the ocean floor and one very strange looking sword fish. I have never seen anything more beautiful! The colors of the corals flickering as the sunlight was passing through the water. I lost myself completely in that moment. Following a bunch of bright yellow fish until I almost lost the rest of the tour group!

When you go on a snorkeling tour, everything is included. Your snorkel, your mask, your fins, your life jacket (if you need one) and also lunch! Yes lunch! An amazing buffet lunch with the best Vietnamese food you could ask for! Fish, beef, pork, rice, noodles…….we ate like kings!

After lunch we headed out to Bamboo island for another hour of snorkeling. This time the corals were even more mind blowing! The colors more intense! I saw a big pink fish with black stripes, yellow and green fish hiding behind some rocks, more starfish and beautiful sea anemones. (I wish I knew all the fancy words for the fish, but you get the picture..)

The tour took about half a day. On our way back we saw some local fishing boats and admired the beautiful view of the islands. I would recommend snorkeling in Vietnam to everyone! It was an amazing experience and hey….a mermaid needs the ocean!
